After taking my recoil pad off my 12 ga. ultra slug hunter delux, i found there was some kind of black thing in the hole, and a screw holding it in. I know there is supposed to be a bolt attaching the stock to the reciever but what the heck is this thing between that bolt and the recoil pad?

It's just a wieght added to your stock to help balance out the heavy barrel and reduce recoil. You can leave it out and try shooting it like that. Some like that barrel heavy feel and if you are shooting 2 3/4" loads the recoil should'nt be too bad. I had one in my topper deluxe and took it out.
