I used the T3 rings that came with the gun.  Mounted a 3-9 Weaver Grand Slam.  Works just fine.  Buckfever

I wonder if the Millett engraved will fit the 595 action of the Whitetail series?  Buckfever

I generally use Warne, although I am going to try out the ones that come with the T3 and see how they do.

I have not been too happy with Warne lately - especially their "gloss" finish which is a joke.  I'm going to take a good look at the new Talley rings.

Zachary thought the engraved Millet would look nice on a Zeiss Conquest.  By the way you have quite a few scopes  so what would you recommend for a scope on a Tikka Continental Varmint 223?  I thought about Zeiss, Bushnell 4200, Nikon, Weaver Grand Slam all 4 or 5 by 14 or 16.  I would then probably match my Deer stand gun with the same scope  3-9 so I don't have to think about how to adjust it under hunting conditions because the 223 would have a lot of repetitions, force of habit and such.  The 3-9 would have to be really good for twilight , light gathering low light but still in a 40-44mm size.  Thanks for the help.  Buckfever.

Buckfever,

I don't have a lot of experience with the Grand Slams, but many will tell you that they are very good scopes, especially Jon from theopticzone.com, who is one of our sponsors.

I am a fan of Bushnell Elite 4200s, Nikon Monarchs, and Zeiss Conquests.  All of them are excellent and you can't go wrong with any of these models.  That said, I have a few of the Elite 4200s in 4x-16x, one with 50mm AOs, and two with 40mm AOs.  These scopes should work great for your .223.  The Nikon is about the same price, but doesn't have rainguard, and the Zeiss is pricier but has etched reticles.

As for a 3x-9x model for deer hunting, The Elite 4200 has a 2.5x-10x-40mm which is great, and Nikon has a Monarch in 3x-9x-40mm which is also great.  The Monarch, however, is noticeably less and, in my opinion, a better value unless you think that you will really have a use for the rainguard feature.  The Zeiss Conquest has a 3x-9x-40mm and it's optics are just as awesome.  I own all three of these scopes and they are all great.  You may want to see the prices on www.theopticzone.com and then see the specs - i.e. length, weight, eye relief, FOV, etc. and choose which one you feel most comfortably with. :D

Tikka rings

I used Millett rings to mount a Weaver GS 6x20 on my Whitetail Hunter in 25-06.  I missed a trophy buck this year offhand at about 225m.  I couldn't believe it and it is still bothering me.  I wasn't able to check the zero on this gun since moving this summer - big mistake.  When I finally got to the range it was about 18 inches left at 100 yds.  I fired a couple of correction shots that were wandering and when I started to inspect the mounts I looked down on the shooting table to find the rear ring tightening screw and cam piece lying on the table.  Yea - I was pissed at myself for not checking the gun - but also, I'll not use Millett again.  I have two sets, low and med high for sale - cheap!

I've purchased the Talley Lightweight one piece system for this weapon.  I could have gone with Leopold 54447 bases and standard low ring mounts, but I like the idea of the one piece design, its simplicity.

Comments welcome on the Talley rings.

BTW - I used the Tikka supplied rings for my T3 in 223 - mounted a Leupold VxII 3x9.  Works great - "dead nuts" shooter.

I use Weaver Grand Slam bases and Leupold quick detachable rings.  This combo is rock solid and allows me to change scopes if needed for different situations.  The Leupold rings do return to zero or very close.  The Tikka ring/base combo that is from Tikka is a little meek for me.

I used the rings it came with to mount a 3-9x40 Weaver grand slam and have no problem .it's a T3 Hunter in .243 and it groups .75 at 100 yards, has 80 rounds through it and holds zero 100%.

For my T3 Varmint I use weaver base with Millett Angle-loc (low) rings. I have a Leupold 6.5-20 SF scope sitting on it. Very happy with this arrangement.
