« on: November 25, 2004, 05:51:16 AM »
Hello I have a rem. model 700 and i shoot decent groups, about 3' at 100 yrds, but i think i could shoot alot better with a good trigger. With how it is now i literally cant squeeze a shot off. What go i have to do to fix this, a trigger job or what. Also how much would it cost for one??? thnks

Replace with a Timney or Shilen and be done with it-----less than $100.

You should be able to adjust the Rem. trigger to suit you unless your want a bench rest quality trigger. Take the stock off and look at the trigger group. You will find 2 screws, 1 adjust the pull weight and the other the travel. By trail and error you should have no trouble getting it where you`ll be happy with it. I have 2 - 700`s with factory triggers and both are real nice.

jt123, DYI is rewarding and fun but if you are not 100% sure what you are doing, consider having a competent gunsmith do the job instead. Most gunsmiths will do the adjustment for 40-50 dollars.  This price is very, very inexpensive when you consider what could happen with an improperly adjusted trigger.

Try different brands and bullit weight of ammo and you might close the group some. I have a Remington model 7, 7mm08 that I could only get 4-5 inch group out of till I started reloading and now I can almost touch holes at 100 yds. I've had better groups out of Federal and Winchester ammo, but I have a 7mm mag that likes the Remington better.

Please read the other thread, you don't want to go messing around with the screws if you don't know what you are doing. Easy way to get someone killed.
