Range Question
« on: November 24, 2004, 01:14:29 PM »
Suppose I am sighting in a rifle with peep sights.

It is shooting 2 1/2 inches to the right and 2 inches high at 100 yards.

Which way do I move the rear sight windage to bring it over to the left?

Somethings I forget.....  darn pre-Alzheimers.

I guess I could waste a shell to find out but asking is just as good.

You move your rear sight in the same direction you want the bullets to go. If you have an adjustable front sight you move it opposite.
In your case move the rear sight to the left and leave the elevation alone, unless this is a squirrel rifle.
You would be amazed at how much us old bastards learned by trial and error, and the occasional book, before there was an internet.

Thanks for the info Ramrod.

I agree with the internet statement.  And GB's seems to be a Gold Mine of such info.

I also knew that adjusting the individual sights were opposite each other but I couldn't remember which was which.  At one time I had to adjust a front sight on a rifle with a drift, but that doesn't come up from memory either.  Working with scopes for the last 35 years or so and some things slip my mind.

That is, what's left of my mind.

how i remind myself is to picture a sight picture in my head and imagine the front post moves to the right out of the rear "slot." then think about which way you have to move the end of the barrel to regain the picture. thats the direction the bullet will go.

just my two cents.
