Yeah, It's been on all the radio news I've been listening to all day. I wish they would have I dentified the guy as a nut (which he clearly had to be) instead of a hunter. It makes us all look bad when something like this happens. When I was younger I would agressively approach any trespassers on my property now I'm a lot friendlier. You never know  when you are going to come up on something like this.

I understand he claims they made racial slurs at him, then they fired the first shot.  It does seem rather an extravagant response, but if someone shoots at ME I may get carried away also!  We'll just have to see what the investigation comes up with.

In the meantime, the press is already using this as a call to ban all semi-automatic firearms as not being appropriate hunting weapons.

What foolishness, just an excuse and we all know it. He could have killed them all just as dead with a single shot or a bow and arrow....<><.... :(

the one thing about this I can't understand is there was at least 8 of them  or more and one of him why didn't someone take him out before he killed or injuried so many people.  I guess its the grunt in me that says hey shoot at me and I'm going to shoot back.

Dave there was only one gun between the entire group of eight, and that was in the hands of the first person there. After the initial shootings when the guy with the only gun was shot one of the others called for help at a shooting, the others responded in an attempt to assist at what they thought was an accidental hunting accident, not a multiple homicide with the shooter still running around and shooting unarmed people and reshooting the wounded  ones and killing them...It was a slaughter of unarmed persons who responded to a call for help....<><.... :(

People think I'm some kind of nut for not going out to my rural property without a gun of some sort. I always aproach tresspassers in a friendly manner. I may not be quite as freindly towards the end of the encounter but they are the ones breaking the law. It's sad but you just never know. I had a guy fire a shot in the air one time when I was taking down a tree stand that he had illegaly erected on my property. I responded with slug about a foot over his head in the tree he was in at the time. the guy had been told to remove it several days earlier and didn't. That was 19 years ago and I've never had that problem since. When I was about 6 or 7 We went to my Grandpa's house and there was a real pretty new auto shotgun sitting in the corner behind the kitchen door. My Dad asked about it and Grandpa said a hunter had left it in the woods. What he didn't tell him was that granpa had caught him in a tree stand that ddn't belong to him and he was trespassing. Grandpa told him to leave and his respones stared with the f word. Grandpa put a half dozen or so rounds into the tree right above him and the guy junmped from the tree stand and left his gun. The guy actually came back after a while and apologised and Granpa gave him his gun back.
