Bam Bam,
I know that the round is made from a 444 Marlin and has an improved shoulder angle. I know that the round has slightly less internal volume than the 280 Remington and that the load work-up can be managed from data for that cartridge if you start at minimum loads and work up carefully to an accurate load while watching for signs of excessive pressure. You should stay below maximums listed for the 280.
The middle speed powders will probably give the best velocities but your accuracy will be dependent on your weapon and its harmonics.

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.

I have yet to find a history on the cartridge or any mention of its origins but I am still looking.

I believe the person who invented the round has a handle on another forum that is "ALPO".  David White can chamber the round and give you info on it.  Ther are also 308 and 358 Alpo rounds.

Having a rim on it can sure help in a single shot rifle, or a double, so some might say it improves, rather than duplicates. :)

There are some European rounds that fill this same role, but 444 brass might be easier to come by in the USA.
