Eabco, OTT, VV, or Fox Ridge -which one (if my only options)
« on: November 12, 2004, 11:00:18 AM »
oK Id like to thank those that have helped me get this far but now that i got all the technical details - I plan on building a 260rem - and due to the twist rate I want I can only choose from the following: Eabco, OTT, VV, or Fox Ridge .

I know a guy who has a VV barrel for sale, i know they are out of business.

I've heard weird things about extraction/lock-up problems on VV stuff so I'm kinda leaning to OTT, as i don't know what kind of barrel blanks fox ridge uses.  OTT uses douglas - unless otherwise specified. and due to the controversy over who actually makes the Eabco barrels - im kinda leary of them.

Would hope to hear from some folk who could give me some sound advise, or have any comments.

Bullberry, Van horn and SSK cant make the barrel with the twist rate id like, so at this point they are not an option.

Hope to hear fom ya all. - steve

I didn't know you could order a specific twist rate from Fox Ridge. I have been told that it was a take what we have or leave it situation with them.

it is not a custom twist, each encore barrel maker uses different blanks and such (wilson, douglas. shilen, allowing one to choose twist rate by what company you buy from (via where they get their banks from).  I still dont know, nor do the people at the custom shop that i've talked with know what brand their banks are -- perhaps TC makes them, guess I'm leary od quality of metallurgy. I have several foxridge barrels, but i want this one to be a guaranteed sweet shooter

I think you can rule out VV, there was a discussion on them leaving the business. I have a bullberry .350 rem mag, but I've never shot it, I had a great customer experience with them, but it did take a while to get it.

I have two OTT barrels and he will be the one to build the next one. I have a 16.25"-500S&W and a 29"-257 Wtby. Mag. barrel.
