Dan Wesson revolver?

Bought a used Dan Wesson 357 Mag with 8" barrel. Made in Monson, Mass.Serial # 307***. What Model is it, when made? Thanks!

No one, not even the current Dan Wesson owners have access to any of the records of the the previous companies, including the Monson company.  All these records were taken by the BATF when the companies changed.  Therefore no records associated with the serial number exist.  

Most 357's were either Mod 15 (adj. sights) or a Mod. 14 (fixed sights)  there were some earlier models with "pork chop" barrels.    Some  later ones with fixed, non-interchangeable barrels were made, but they were not made in Monson I don't believe.

Thanks! Mine must be  a Model 15, has adjustable sights. Has an excellent trigger and shoots very well :D

Mine shoot well also.  I own several.

You will not find a more accurate 357, and you will find many that don't measure up in that department.  S&W copied the Dan Wesson barrel system (and a few other things) on their new 500 S&W.  It was a must to use the excellent DW technology if the big 500 was going to last.  Last I heard, they are planning to use the Dan Wesson barrel technology on ALL their revolvers eventually.  When that happens, S&W will begin to rival Dan Wesson for accuracy, but S&W does not allow for the user to interchange the barrels.  It must be done in the factory, although it a similar barrel and shroud system as the Dan Wesson.  I quess S&W would rather sell you 2 (or more) guns instead of allowing you to change barrels.  That is why I am glad Dan Wesson is going to keep making revolvers, even though they are also doing very well with the 1911's now.

Didn't DW have a duplicate copy?  Or did the BATF just haul everything away, duplicate or not?
How about the freedom of information act?  Records of this sort always trun out t obe valuable to the collectiong community in the long run.  Just ask any Luger collector his opinion on the French destroying all the Mauser records.

As far as I know DW does not have any information from previous companies.  As to why that happened, I have no idea.

Very good question.  I don't know that anyone has ever tried to get the info from the BATF.  I might look into that myself, although there may be readers here better able to do that.  Any volunteers?
