cleaning lubaloy [Win] from barrel
« on: October 26, 2004, 04:41:20 PM »
I was wondering if anyone knew how to clean a barrel after shooting Win. Supreme line.  Yeah, the ones with the black stuff on the bullets.  Do you clean like a moly bullet or is there another process?  I'm interested because I have a new rifle to break-in and want to do it right.  Also I'ved used them in another rifle and wanted to make sure I'm getting it clean.  I've used Hoppes, Sweets 76, J-B bore paste with bore snake and cleaning rods.  Any ideas, thanks.

I am not a fan of the coated bullets for many reasons, one of which is the problems associated with cleaning them.  Rest assured that if you shoot coated bullets, then your barrel will never be as clean as it was before.  It is almost impossible to clean that junk out of your barrel.  In fact, some gun custom gun manufacturers strongly advise against the use of such bullets.

BUT, since you have already used these types of bullets, try using JP Bore Past, as well as the Barnes copper cleaner/remover.  It will take a great deal of time to get most of the coating out of your barrel.  Just be very patient.

The Win. Lubaloy is not moly. It's a graphited Laquer really only intended as a sales gimmick. It dosen't actually do anything because it's gone in the first couple inches of bore travel. it's not imbedded like moly. Sweet's and some JB will remove it easily
