Got drawn for Virginia's Sika Deer hunt - need info.

Found out today, me and some buddies got drawn for the Sika deer hunt on Chincoteague NWR.  Now I need all the information I can find.
Anyone hook me up with some.
Will be hunting Zone 4 on 1/13 and 1/14.

I don't know about the Virginia hunt, but I know Sika bucks that are 4x4 and about 20 inches are what start making gold in the Records of Exotics.  They are agressive and will chase other deer out.

Way to go Ken.  I hope your hunt is a good one.  Are you allowed only one buck?  How does that work?

It is a two day hunt.  Each hunter is allowed 5/day.  Three of those must be antlerless.  The other two are either sex.

From the research I've been able to do, it looks like those limits are very optimistic, but at least it gives me a goal to work toward

Each group consists of five hunters, so theoretically at least, our group could take 50 :shock:

Like I said, I think that is very optimistic.  Last year a total of just under 300 were taken.

I just plan on enjoying the experience of hunting an environment I've never hunted before (I hunt the mountains of northern and western Virginia).

I just got bakc from Dorchester County in Md hunting for them.

they are in their rut right now and are bugling (like elk) like crazy.

one thing that has worked with limitied success is to mew like a cow elk. It is hard to duplicate without hearing it, but you can use a cow elk call. it has worked for us.;
