HELP!!! G2 CARBINE
« on: October 22, 2004, 04:08:15 PM »
I got a good deal and picked up a G2 Contender carbine in 45-70 Government. What I need to know now is what the hell do I have? :?  I have had contender carbines and pistols before but not the G2. From what I read in the book I understand that it will use regular contender barrels and fore ends but different stocks. Is that right so far? Will it use all the former contender barrels? Is the frame the same strength at the old contender frame? Is there a standard type chamber pressure these guns are designed for? Besidees letting your shoulder be the guide, What lavel of 45-70 loads will it digest. Trap door level? Marlin Level? I would like any info you guys can pass along on this new toy.
shot placement is everything.

You have the upgraded design for the contender. Load for the G2 the same as the contender and you'll be fine. Yes the stock is different and will not interchange with the contender, but the barrels will. With the exception of the muzzle loader barrels. They will not interchange.   KN

James B,

You have yourself an excellent rifle.  The main thing to remember in the .45-70 is that it can only handle trap door loads.  I have a 209X45 barrel for mine and love it.  I am still awaiting my .45-70 barrel from Ed's T/C.  These guns are very nice handling and lightweight.  As for stocks, they are not interchangeable.  The barrels are.  Good for you on your good deal!
