barrel fouling

howa 1500 .243,been working up loads with some speer 80 grain hot core that were gave to me,they weren't very shiny,but it seems to foul really quick,like around 15 -20 shots,im using varget,would the bullets be doing this? i have used v-max and could shoot alot longer without fouling!

What kind of fouling are you talking about..  and how do you remove it.  The bullets only leave jacket emtal fouling in the bore..  If what your seeing is powder fouling then the bullets aren't to blame.  If your not using a metal fouling remover then you are not getting the jacket metal out of the bore..  Hoppes only removes powder fouling..unless it the BR variety..

im using shooters choice,i use patches and bronze brush,when patches come out clean i stop,its not powder fouling,more likely copper!

Try some Butch's Bore Shine or the Sweets copper removing product.  If your patches come out green, you are having copper fouling in the bore.  If it is real bad you can plug the barrel and leave BBS in the barrel overnight.  Then clean out with a regular bore cleaner.  I also use WD40 as a powder remover.  Sometimes I run a final patch thru saturated with lacquer thinner to remove the oil, but only if I plan on shooting the rifle again fairly soon.  If I plan or storing it for some time I leave a protective oil in the bore.

Ammonia (which is the ingredient in most bore solvents to remove copper fouling) can be purchased really cheap.  WD-40 has cleaned lots of guns but finds disdain with some due to the acidity, I believe.  I don't care if Hoppes removes anything.  It just smells good.

I would try some different bullets and different bullet designs. If the problem carries over I would look in to lapping the barrel.

The hot core{Speer} most likley,have a softer jacket. The V-max,may be harder.From what I've read,the v-max is built to take high rotational speed?From this,i would say the jackets are tougher?
Unless you have alot of the Speers or don't mind the fouling,give them to some one else!!!!!!!!
As to lapping your barrel?????????????I've tried this, never again?????
