Dumb Sluggun question
« on: October 15, 2004, 02:47:43 AM »
I am thinking about getting  a cantilever barrel for my slug gun (v. the iron sights I have now) what ring set up do these use? Do you attach weaver bases to them then use weaver rings? I've seen a million of these (and hunted with some in the distant past) but am having a brain fart I guess.

The mount (Base) is part of the cantilever.... My Remington Barrels came with the rings attached.... My Hastings didn't come with the rings I added them .... Hope this helps, I too suffer from CRS and Definitely CSS w/o a scope... one thing about the cantilever barrels they sure are one heck of alot better than a B-Square mount, simply because there fixed to the barrel and not the reciever....Haven't had a scope lose zero in years since I switched....MTNMAN

Gotcha, the cantilever is grooved for (I'm betting) Weaver rings, so you just need the rings. Thanks

I'm thinking about putting my aimpoint off of one of my AR15s on it.

I've had a tougher time with iron sights in recent years, the aimpoint is 1x but it gives a nice big red circle. I'm pretty much putting a scope on everything at this point. Ain't easy gettin' old

:D aimless, Weaver style does not mean you have to buy Weaver. Alot of other good companies use this system and are compatible. That said, I have never had a problem with Weaver in 30 years of use.
As far as optics go, Aimpoint is good, but a low power scope is even better. They have an interesting ability to "see through brush" as some of the old gunwriters have put it. It is because all the little twigs up close will be out of focus, and the horns on the deer will stand right out. I love my old 2-3/4 power Redfield, it gives me a good accurate 100 + yard sight and still works very well on close range running targets.
