Nosler 140 gr. Accubonds in 270 Win.
« on: October 14, 2004, 04:12:06 AM »
Has anyone tried this new bullet yet?  I have been reading a ton on it and like the way it looks and performs, according to the mainstream rags.  I plan on using it in my 270 Winchester, 22" barrel.  Any loads that have worked for you?  Planing on using RL-19/22, H414 or AA 3100.  :?   May stay with the tried and true IMR-4350.

Also does it have the same ballistic Coefficient as the Nosler 140 gr. BT.  If so, it would be great to work these bullets up as a combo.  Loads that shoots both accurate and to the same impact point.  Since it's cheaper to shoot the BT's it would be great practice ammo and field tester.

Thanks for the help.

Well did some digging and came up with the following.  By the way, this should have been done on the reloading forum...Sorry!

140 Gr. Nosler BT
ballistic Coefficient is .456

140 Gr. Nosler Accubond
ballistic Coefficient is .496

This translates into a difference of 1" @ 200 yards, 3.3" @ 300 yards and 7" @ 400 yards when both have a 100 yard zero and the same velocity.

Loaded up some ammo

Took some time last night and loaded up 25 rounds using the new 140 gr. Accubonds.

5 rounds each using AA3100 @ 54, 54.5, 55, 55.5 and 56 grs.  Hopefully I'll find one my gun likes.  I also loaded up some 140 gr Barnes XBT using IMR-4350.  We'll see what the range session :jeep:  comes up with on Sunday.

Josh:  I'd be interested to know how this turns out.....

Well after shooting 3 different rifles and between 9-11 loads between them I'm a touch sore.

The best load I could come up with for the 270 Winchester and Nosler Accubonds was the following:

3 shot at around a .625" and the 4/5 rounds opened up a touch to just over an inch.  Load...140 gr. Accubond over 55.5 grains of AA3100 at an overall length of 3.340" (going from memory so please check Nosler book for powder charge range).

All others were not good.

I did try some Barnes 140 XBT over IMR-4350.  Best was:

4 shots at 1.05" and the fifth was pulled so bad (had a guy shooting a 7mm mag w/muzzle break next to me) it wasn't on the paper.  Guess I was nervous in the service.  Load...140 Barnes XBT over 53 grains of IMR-4350. (as stated earlier, going from memory so please check Barnes book for powder charge range).

I'll check at home tonight and verify the data.  Will EDIT if there are any incorrect data.

By the way, Winchester cases, CCI BR-2 primers.  Gun was a Winchester Model 70.  Again this should have been done in the reloading forum, sorry.

Hope this helps.
