Wyoming squirrel hunting
« on: October 12, 2004, 05:17:38 AM »
I was wondering if anyone knew of an area in northern colorado that has decent size squirrels. I used to hunt squirrels with my grandfather in Louisianna when I was a kid, but have lived in Wyoming for the last 16 years and there aren't any real squirrels here except in the town parks. Recently, I inherited my grandfather's shotgun {really nice browning sweet 16, would give it up if I could have him back though} and would like to take my daughter squirrel hunting with it. I live in Cheyenne, so a trip across the border to Colorado wouldn't be too bad. If you know of an area let me know, or if you know that there are squirrels around an area, I can get the maps and find some public land on my own.

Thanks,

Joe

Joe44:  there are several WMA east of I-25 that have good numbers of squirrel and rabbits. Any of the areas along the south platte river have always been good.Cherokee state wildlife areas west of 287 just north of livermore have good squirrel hunting check them out, and maybe I'll see you around. good luck.

Joe44 ,

The southern Wyo mountains are full of gray squirrels. I use a scope sighted .22 . Use an old Olt squirrel call, by tapping on leg .

Joe,
Don't know if you're interested in rabbits but western Wyo along I-80 has peak rabbit population right now. Most rabbits I've seen in 10 years. You can verify that just driving on the interstate. Sailor rabbits every 50 feet.

(sailor rabbits: you know, the kind you can pick up and sail like a frisbee)
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.
