Convert a clip fed rifle to internal magazine
« on: October 11, 2004, 08:33:13 PM »
I'm not sure if I asked this here before, but here goes.  I apologize if I did.

I have an older Savage 110 and was wondering if it can be converted to an internal magazine?  The clip pops out everytime after the last round has been fired.  This would be OK if I had another clip to slam in there but I see more disadvantages to the clip than advantages.

I'm thinking of just making some sort of latch on the bottom of the rifle that will not allow the clip to drop out until "I" want it to.  Like a Remington with the drop out magazine.  I could even use the spring in the magazine for this.

If I converted it, what parts do I need?  I'm not able to get another rifle, I like this one, just not the clip.

Suggestions?

handirifle:  check with Brownells.  I think I have seen box magazine replacements for clip feeds in their catalog but I'm not really certain.  I know I have seen box magazine replacements for Mausers and maybe Remingtons.

Also, you may need a new clip or a new clip retaining latch (er whatever) to resolve that problem without having to go nutz with modifications.  HTH.  Mikey.

You'll need a "Floorplate Assy. & a Replacement Trigger Guard Assy."

(Most rifles incorporate the floorplate release button in the trigger guard assy.)

I think Mikey has the answer,... look @ Brownells to see if they carry it for your make and model rifle.

I know for a fact you can get them for converting the other way around, because I did it to my Remington 700 BDL.

Will do.  I do have one of their catalogs somewhere too.  Does Brownells take calls with questions like this?

I'm sure they would,... if I'm not mistaken there is a phone # for them in the master cataloge someplace. It's just not in front of me at this time. :(
