help
« on: October 10, 2004, 06:19:12 PM »
I just purchased a new encore in .308.I noticed if i open the rifle up all the was after i shoot,i cant get the empty out without almost closing the rifle and then the extractor disengages. Is this normal for an encore ? If it is,it sure slows one down when they are trying to do a quick reload.

I have a new .308.  That doesn't sound normal.  Does it do with with several types?

I've only tried winchester factory ammo so far.The unfired shell will go in/out without a problem but the fired brass hangs up and will only come out if the barrel is almost closed and the extractor starts to lower-strange ! I may take it to my gunsmith tomorrow.
Thats nothing-last week when i went to pick this rifle up,t/c had shipped my gun dealer a 30-06 barrel in a box for a 308.Everything on the box indicated it was a 308 like i asked for.My gunsmith even put the gun together and mounted the scope base on it.I looked at the barrel stamp and noticed it was 30-06.I could have got injured if i was dumb enough to slide a 308 into that chamber and fire it.

A .308 will champer in a 30-06. It sits a little further in the chamber then the 06. I checked it out and was surprised it would chamber.  Good thing you caught that.

The tension on the extractor could also do this. You may need to bend the spring which keeps tension on the extractor a bit to give it a little more upward pressure.

You don't want too much, however, or it will interfere with the round during chambering

help..extractor
« Reply #6 on: October 27, 2004, 06:10:32 PM »
Well, got the new extractor from T/C the other day.My gunsmith went to install it and when he removed the barrel the old extractor just fell out. There was no pin holding it in place.Well, i called T/C back today and asked for the same front office manager that works in customer service (Tim ?).Tim has no last name, didnt want to reveal it...is this normal biz practice ? Anyway, updated him on this and now he's sending me out the pin.He cant understant how they missed this since all barrels are test fired. They dont seem phased by all this. 1) Shipping a 30.06 barrel in a .308 box 2) shipping the 308 barrel without the pin installed to hold extractor in place and 3) possibility of me still having a problem with the barrel and having to remove scope/base and sending it back to T/C and hopefully getting it back before hunting season.Has anybody else had problems with T/C quality and lack of concern?

I had a several stocks break on a 209x50.  When I called about it all they said was "it happens sometimes"  and "it really can't handle any lateral pressure"  but to thier credit they sent me new butstocks without any trouble.

One thing I will tell you is, stuff happens at any place you buy guns. The real good thing is Thompson Center will back there product. I have 4 Encore's and 2 Contenders and more barrels than I can shoot. I have had great success with them and not any problems.  :D
