New life for an old '03 Springfield
« on: October 10, 2004, 05:07:28 AM »
My late father's hunting rifle is a Springfield sporter manufactured in 1934 by the serial #.  It has a GI 4 groove barrel and has been an OK but not spectacular shooter for me. I had it glass bedded by a gunsmith this year and installed an adjustable trigger and a heavier spring to reduce lock time. Took it out to the range to test handloads three days ago. I Fired a series of 3 shot groups to zero a new scope - six groups in all. All the groups but the first one which was fired from a clean  barrel were an inch or less extreme spead - a couple were about 3/4 inch. This sweet old gun will stay in the family long after I reach room temperature!
