Sellier & Bellot 12 gauge Foster slugs
« on: October 09, 2004, 02:32:52 PM »
Has anyone tried the S&B- 2 3/4", 1 oz. foster slugs?  I see Cabela's has a special on them at present and wondered how they might fair in a model 37- 12 gauge Ithaca Deerslayer smoothbore??????

I hear Lightfields and Brenneke's are good in a smoothbore Ithaca 37 as well.  I have used most of the usual Rem, Fed, Win. varieties in 2 3/4" foster slugs and find they lead up the barrel pretty quickly.  Anyone out there with similar experiences?

SavageT, I have used them. I have about 50 rds left out of 1000 rds I ordered about 2 years ago. They shot fine and with good accuracy out of my 3 shotguns. They work well on light to medium game. For heavier game the Brenneke's are the only way to go. IME the Brenneke's will give you about 40-50% deeper penetration than any other brands. I don't know what your hunting, so you may not need the penetration.  In a smooth bore barrel I only use the foster type slugs. Hope this helps, Byron
