Please. Help on identity of TWO old "Pocket Type Revol
« on: October 05, 2004, 03:05:11 PM »
Any and all information would be greatly appreciated as I don't know where to begin to do research. Have had these for a while..(40 yrs)

1:  5 shot 32 cal rimfire "Chrome plated?" 1 7/8" barrel. No rear sight but has sight pin at end of barrel. Birds Head grips. No trigger Guard
Top Strap is stamped: VICTOR No. 2  and under that: PATMAY 28, 1876.

2: 7 Shot 22 cal rimfire (Short?) "Chrome plated?" 1 7/8" Barrel. No rear sight but blade type front sight. No trigger Guard. Bird's Head grips. Top of barrel is stamped: DEFIANCE and under that: PAT'D APR 23 1878

Both revolvers load and empty by removing the cylinder. My guess is the "Ejector" was using the removed cylinder pin.
Both revolvers have a top strap.

I have copied the markings exactly as they are.
I have established caliber by trying a .32 cal Short Colt (This is a little to long, the bullet stands proud of the cylinder) and a .22 cal in the cylinders. I used a LR but it is WAY to long

I am quite certain these were ONLY made for Blackpowder.

Thank You!
Regards, Jack

Made in large quantities by various makers, these were called "bicycle guns" (bicycling was a rage then, and dogs and muggers were problematic) or "suicide specials" (self-explanatory).  Of course, they were relatively inexpensive, although complex and intricate by modern manufacturing standards.  .32 and .22 rimfires were the norm.  Black powder was also standard.  They have almost no collector value, or practical value either, but they are kinda neat.
