Machette question.
« on: October 02, 2004, 12:24:40 PM »
Can anyone give me some information and a  value on a Collins machette I have? It has No. 128 on it as well as 1941.  It has about a 20" blade with what I think are hard plastic handle scales. It also has a homemade OD green canvas sheath. Thanks, Worm.

Being something of a machete freak( I have 5 including a Collins marked 1944..otherwise identical to yours), I do know that Collins made machetes by the thousands, so they are hardly rare.  There is a Collector's book on Collins Machetes, but I can't recall the exact title.  It's Published by Krause Publications, so you might do a search at their website.  Mine all get used.

I've used mine to clear shooting lanes for bow hunting, but in the last few years I've switched to using a small pruning saw to cut my lanes and to cut down on the amount of noise I make in my hunting area. I was told this machette was used in the phillipenes during the war, but can't find any proof of this. It is a very well built tool and I will most likely keep it and use around the house and woods. Thanks for the reply. Worm
