Got some in my library. Not gonna look for them tonight. But if I don't forget will check on titles and other pertinent info tomorrow. If I forget PM me to remind me.

are you looking for fiction or non fiction? as far as fiction there's a serial called trappers blood or wilderness or something like that. there's well over a hundred. and there real fiction not those sleazy western romances like the gunsmith. i think one of the characters name was shakespeare mcnair. GB, do you know what i'm talking about?

for non-fiction i recommend "with the indians in the rockies" a true story from the mid 1850's. aimed more at a teenage reader but still good none the less. you might also want to read the trappers volume from the time-life series "the old west".
" oh we didn't sink the bismarck, and we didn't fight at all, we spent our time in Norfolk and we really had a ball. chasing after women while our ship was overhauled, living it up on grapefruit juice and sick bay alcohol"

OK finally back to it. Here are some from my personal library that might fit the bill for what you're looking for.

1. The California Trail by George R. Steward, McGraw-Hill Book Co.

2. The Bloody Bozeman by Dorthy M. Johnson McGraw-Hill Book Co.

3. The American Heritage Book of Great Adventures of the Old West, American Heritage Press.

4. Voices from the Wilderness by Thomas Froncek, McGraw-Hill

5. The Westerners by Dee Brown from Holt, Rinehart and Winston

6. The Devil's Backbone by Jonathan Daniels, McGraw-Hill

7. The Great North Trail by Dan Cushman, McGraw-Hill

I have several others but wasn't able to get to them at this time. Not sure if this is just what you're looking for but maybe so.

I like Theodore Roosevelt's Outdoor Pasttimes of an American Hunter.  I have travelled through and enjoyed the lands he hunted and I admire his descriptions and perceptions.
