I searched the archieves and didn't realy find anything.(found redoing the military pistol) but nothing on this. So here goes.
My question is what is the most accurate target pistol.
Bench resting to 50 yards +.......(75)?
Price range 500 to 1,200 dollars not counting scope. I prefer not to use a scope but realise thats probably the only way to judge just how accurate a pistol is.
Revolver,1911 ,whatever.
Caliber......whatever.
I'm just interested in a forgiving pistol that will group at 50 to 75 yds.
Ruger blackhawk's or redhawk's are kind of what I'm leaning towards but this place is for asking opinions and I'm asking TIA

I shoot 44 Redhawk 7.5" and a SBH 7.5" one is scoped 2x, the other a red dot at 100 yds. I may get them in a 15" circle. At 25 they close to over 2" ave. This ok for our shooting deer in Iowa as most are in at -50 yds. At my time in life it is terrible to accept this, how ever its still fun and I adjust the bar some. I have begone to shoot a 22lr in a S&W 617 to see if I can regain some skills in pistol shooting. So far its great and I am using the left hand now for excersise and gaining skill. For now this my most accurate pistol for targets.

Revolvers, you wonÂ’t find any better than a Freedom Arms. I believe you can get into a field grade FA for around 12-1300.

For 1911 style guns STI is tops. You should be able to buy one of their single stacks for around 1300. They make long slides as well.

There is nothing wrong with Rugers or Smith and WessonÂ’s but with a 5-600 dollar gun you are not guaranteed a shooter, with Freedom Arms or STI you are. If you could find a Smith and Wesson 629 DX, that would be a good choice as well.

I just purchased a SBH Hunter Bisley, put a Burris 2X scope on it and at 100 yards I am averageing 6" 5 shot groups from a bench rest. I expect it to get a little better with more practice but not much considering I only have a 2X on it. My T/C encore in 7mm-08 on a really good day has given me my best with a 1/2" 3 shot group at 100 yards with a TC 3X9 lighted recticule scope. LUCKY? could be, but not if I do it again.

Off a rest I can bust clays at 100yrds all day with my ruger Gp 100 6" barrel and Iron sights, @ 50yrds It will put them inside a 2" circle, Using .38s and wadcutters it'll just about put'em in the same hole @ 25yards. Now you got me wanting a scope to see if I can get good groups at 100......jeez more toys :-D

It's hard to beat the T/C Contender or Encore for this. Add a custom barrel for an inherently accurate cartridge, and you've got something much more accurate than any other type of handgun.

I can see t/c would obviously win the match with a single shot.
What is the most acurate cal? I was looking for a repeating pistola, but theres something to be said about 100 yards +. If nothing else it's good exersise unless you got a good spotting scope.

I have been looking at freedom arms websight pretty hard.
I think I remember hearing good things about them back on shooters forum. But for now I have no clue what my next pistol might be. :shock:

If you want a repeater and you are willing to spend in the 1200 dollar range you cannot go wrong with a Freedom Arms. I havenÂ’t done much long range shooting but the 3 FAÂ’s I own all shoot 1Â” or less at 50 yards, a 454 Casull, 475 Linebaugh, and a model 97 22lr. I manage to ring a 12Â” 250 yard steel gong at our range with fair regularity as well. FA is also the choice of silhouette shooters. If I wanted one for all out long range shooting I would go with the 10Â” 44 magnum. My two 83s have 6Â” barrels and the 97 has a 5.5Â” barrel.

No other revolver or semi-auto I have fooled with compares to what you get with a FA. They are worth the money.

Another angle on a repeater would be some of the XP100 Remingtons, as chambered for 7mm-08. Most have been single shots, but they did make them as repeaters for a while. Of course, it's more like handling a rifle or a boat anchor than like a handgun.

My vote also goes to the Remington XP100. They out shot anything made in there day, and why wouldn't they??? There nothing less than a bolt action rifle cut down, and a pistol stock put on it.

As a SA person, I'd suggest a FA also. I believe most of their chamberings are avilable in thier silohuette line. As far a s a chambering, I've heard really good things about the .357 maximum for long range. More of a hand-load cartridge now but supposed to be hell for accuracy and still have plenty of punch if needed.
A good idea may be to find and check out a long range handgun forum. There's gotta be at least a few.
