Help identifying 20 m/m projectile
« on: September 16, 2004, 03:42:16 PM »
Help.  I usually "hangout" on another of Graybeards boards but thought I'd slip down here to see about getting some info.  Recently saw a whole bucket of 20 m/m projectiles for sale.  I noted the markings on some of them and here's what's marked,
D.P
20mm.MKIII Mod 4
The nose cap shows MK26-..NC...
Then the body of the projectiles show dates of 42 & some 43.  I know these are from WWII but just wonder what they were when live prior to being deactivated.  They are all empty.  The fellow selling them was asking 60 cents each.  Most all of them still have a chunk of brass from the case left after ripping/pulling them. Are they worth that price??Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks fellows.  Blaster

There were a number of guns during WWII that used the 20mm projectile you described. Many of the deck guns used on ships, and PT boats were 20mm, and I believe some anti aircraft guns used to defend air strips were also 20mm.
As for what they're worth, .60 cents doesn't sound unreasonable if they are in decent shape. I see them with a projectile stuck in the fired case for $3-$5 on occasion.
