Hey all..

I have a Browning A-Bolt 30-06 which I purchased a few months ago to take whitetail hunting with me this year. Been shooting the 180 grain core lokts.. Went to buy ammo today at Gander, and they were out of the 180 grain so I picked up the 165 grain (I hear good things about em', so figured what the hell.. will give em a try). How do you like the 165 grain for 30-06? The a-bolt has shot the core lokts real well thus far, just introducing a new grain I guess. BTW, am hunting whitetails in northern MN. How do you think they will do?

I have an 03a3 that absolutely loves the 165gr.PSPCL but my Savage 110 and Remington 700 30'06s both prefer the 150gr. CORE-LOKTs for some reason...

The 165gr Core-Lokts will do fine. I've used them to get several deer with my 30-06 and my loads aren't as fast as factory ammo.

Huntingguy : Until you try them in your rifle you wont know for sure, but both my 700 and ruger model 77 like the 165, I have used it in many of my rifles over the years.

If hunting deer in Dense cover/ Heavily wooded areas I'd use round-nosed 180 gr' bullets......Maybe! White tails are too thin-skinned and too lightly muscled to open up the 180 grainers, usually. I'd go with either the 150's (first choice) or the 165's if the 150's weren't accurate enough. If neither is accurate, try another brand of ammo.

I like the choice of 165 gr. bullets for deer hunting. It's the choice of Core Lokts that I don't like. Lawdog

As long as they shoot well in your rifle you'll be just fine.

I buy the 165 Coreloct's in bulk and shoot them in my 30-06 and 308. I like em a lot for deer and feral hogs. So far I can't see a need to shoot anything else out of these two cartridges unless I want to experiment. This years experiment will be Hornady's 180 grain SST.

Went to the range on Saturday. In the 06, the Core Lokts shot 13/16" at 100 and single hole at 50 (where I hunt, 50 yards and down is the average shot. Not many stands in the open). In the 260, the Core Lokts shot 1 3/8" at 100. Going to go back next weekend and fine tune them both center and about 2" high at 100.
