Weatherby vs. Robar
« on: September 09, 2004, 12:39:20 PM »
I have a Weatherby Accumark in 300 Wby.w/26" barrel.  The best groups so far have been two 7/16" three-shot groups at 100yds.  First group was with Wby. factory ammo w/180gr. SP.  The other was using reloads        w/180gr. Barnes Triple Shock X bullet.  Anybody out there have any experiences with a Robar custom rifle such as the SR60?  I'm inquiring on how they compare to what I have just stated.  BTW, I shot those groups with the Accubrake on (not because I can't take the recoil,) but because I'm soon going to see if the point of impact and group size vary when it is removed.  Should I expect to see any major difference (for better or worse) in group size and/or placement with it off?  Thanks in advance. :D   Patriot

The Robar is a nice rifle, but it's hard to answer your questions on how it compares to your weatherby, at least in the accuracy department.

Less than half-an-inch at 100 yards is excellent accuracy, and no one can tell you if the Robar will give you better results.  All guns shoot different ammo and bullets differently.  You could use some ammo and maybe get better or worse groups in your Weatherby, and the same holds true for the Robar.

Based on what you're saying, I'd stick with your Weatherby - it has proven to be a real performer.
