Thinking about getting a 257 Weatherby to fill the gap. Anyone have any pros or cons about this caliber? I've heard it is a great size bullet for proghorn antelope type size animals.

I have the Accumark in .257 Wby Mag. It's flat shooting, hard hitting and heavy. I've taken six whitetails in the four years I've owned it. All one shot clean kills. Of course a lot of rifles will do the same. I like mine except for the weight issue. It can get pretty heavy walking through these hills here in the ozarks. It's the first rifle I grab when deer season rolls around. I do like it, but because recoil is not an issue with this caliber, I would probably buy a lighter rifle in the same chambering if I had it to do over.

Hmmm.I've been wanting a LazerMark.... :wink:

I was considering one myself but backed off when I saw the ammo cost. Since I am not reloading centerfire cartridges at the moment and like to spend time at the range when not in the woods, ammo cost is an issue for me until I hit the lottery. The cartridge appears to be a solid performer otherwise.

The .257 Weatherby Magnum is the King of the "Quarter Bores". It was the favorite of Roy Weatherby. Accurate and hard hitting. Factor ammo cost can take a bite out of your wallet but reloading cures that. Reloading is not that hard or that costly to do. Doesn't take up all that much room either. Reloading lets you tune your ammo to your rifle for optimum accuracy and will save you money so you can shoot more. I got my .257 Weatherby 38 years ago and after 2,500 plus rounds it still groups under MOA. Small groups and tight lines to you. Lawdog
