i am looking for a mossberg 500 in 12 gauge with wood stocks. i would prefer a model with vent rib. any of you guys have one youd like to sell? of so PM me.

anyone have bad experiences with these? i had one years back and i sold it for extra cash and i wish i hadnt now.

i agree but i hate the new stocks...they look like plastic and theyre almost orange. yuck!

plus i like a nice smooth broken-in pump and i would rather spend $175 on a nice used one than $225 on a new one.

MJB,

Keep looking and prowling the gun racks (new and used), you'll likely find one though it may require a bit 'o searching on your part. I know looks are rather subjective but WOW an orangish tinge to the finish! My son's 500 has an attractive "honey" stained finish and looks pretty nice IMO plus it is a nice firearm to use.

thanks guys...today i went to the gun shop near my house and found exactly what i was looking for. it was an almost-new mossberg 500 with nice wood stocks and a 28" ported vent rib barrel and a ported fully-rifled slug barrel in 12 gauge.

it was marked $259 but i traded a crappy .380 pistol my grandpa had years ago and got 50 bucks off. not bad considering the pistol didnt shoot worth a damn thorough its ONE INCH barrel and was only $100 to start with.

so now i am all set, thanks for the responses guys.

alright alright lol

i bought a whole bunch of slugs while iw as at the shop too...so tomorrow or maybe friday or saturday (saturday for sure) i will be sighting it in.

i will post results. by the way guys...its fully rifled...does that mean i should shoot sabots? i have a lot of foster-style slugs around and it seems like a waste not to use em.

i have a manual, the guy gave me one when i bought it. tahts just one of the many reasons i like that gun shop so much.

i have been missing my old mossberg, i am glad i found another one i like. they just fit me better than most pumpsdo.

i heard that shooting the regular smoothbore slugs outof a rifled barrel can get a lot of lead stuck in the rifling and its a bear to get out. i dont want that! lol

so did i get a good deal?

yeah supposedly remington GAVE the design papers to mossberg to keep from a monopoly lawsuit. lol

good deal for O.F. Mossberg, i would say.

i really like my 870 and all but its a 20 gauge and it doesnt fit nearly as well as the mossy. so now i think my gun collection is complete. Now everyone say "yeah riiiiiight...." at the same time lol.

I have now:

870 Express 20 gauge
Mossberg 500 12 gauge combo w/ rifled deer barrel
New England Firearms Pardner 20 gauge
Remington 511 Scoremaster.22LR
Weatherby Vanguard .243
Traditions Buckhunter inline .50 muzzleoader

so i am pretty much well-equipped for anything in the Ohio outdoors, and for about $1300 total. not bad huh? my dad has a beretta 686 O/U that cost almost that much by itself. lol we have a different opinion of whats best, he likes to have am look at em...mine are tools.

this gun is really nice...only a couple tiny little nicks in the wood and NO MARKS on the metal or the barrel. its new enough that the action is still not smoothed out.

usually it tales me a year or two to get it where i like it...where when you shoot it, it almost slides the forearm back FOR you. like a 40 year old model 12. sweeeeeeet and smooth.

i would say thats a pretty good reason to spend $209.00 lol

as for expanding my collection, i dont really have anything else i want right now. i dont like handguns much...i can use them well enough to defend myself but frankly they make me nervous and i dont like em. the only thing i might want is a .270 if i choose to hunt deer out of state. i dont like semi auto shotguns and i wouldnt use any other gauges than what i have...too hard to find shells and too expensive. now as i JUST wrote that i remembered i have a .410 barrel in the mail on the way to my house for my single shot. lol

ok fine maybe i am not done lol....
