German claw mounts?
« on: August 31, 2004, 01:07:44 PM »
I have an opportunity to pick up a 1957 Mannlicher Schoenauer rifle in min condition the only problem it was fitted with a German claw mount scope at one time and the scope or rings are not with it.  Does anyone know if rings can be made and fitted to the rifle and who might do that work?

Thanks,

bigboar

Check a Shotgun News. I think I saw an add in either Sarco or Numrich in a recent SGN (not positive on which one, but I'm leaning toward Numrich for some reason). I do remember, they were not cheap!!!

These claw mounts were each hand fitted to the guns, and no two fit perfectly to any others. It is possible to have them custom made, and there are a few people who can accomplish this, but it wont be cheap. Find a copy of The Double Gun Journal. There are gunsmiths in there who work on fine old double guns, and most could help if you're willing to fork out the dollars.
