New CZ American 270 Winchester Did I Do Go
« on: August 28, 2004, 10:35:21 AM »
I just received my new CZ American 550 in 270 caliber, that I purchased from man on the internet that sold it to me NIB for 385.00 and that included shipping.  I'm impressed with the fit and finish, and it has a set trigger and when I set it, it goes off at about 12 ounces, I don't know what the regular trigger pull is.  With that set trigger you better be ready to shoot, I will have to watch this one.

Target came with the rifle and at 100 meters, 3 shot group measured .500 inches from the factory, good enough for me.  I heard these rifles could shoot, I ask my wife for one in 308 for Christmas, I bet Santa will be good to me.

I will post range report later.

THE trigger pull on that rifle I believe is 4lb without the set trigger. I read a good article on the rifle I'll be happy

12 oz is way too light for a hunting rifle, and I don't believe that it came that way from the CZ factory, but if it did, then something's wrong.  Are you sure it's only 12oz or does it just feel that way?

.5" at 100 yards?  Heck, that's awesome for a factory rifle - or even a custom rifle.

Sounds like you got one heck of deal!

Zachary, it just feels that way, the next time I'm at my gunsmith I'm going to take it along and let him test it, but even the manuel warns you about that light trigger pull stating not to engage it until you are ready to fire.  It can be adjusted to any pull you want.  I'm going to work up some reloads with it today.

Zachary you push the trigger forward to set it 12oz when you are ready to shoot. I Believe it's totally safe. I was going to get one my self but t3 is coming out in LH in nov.

You can use it as a conventional trigger which I agree that it's around a 4 lb. pull or use it as a set trigger, your choice, but I'm impressed with this rifle and it came with scope bases and the barrel is free floated already.

THE set trigger to me is the only way to go it's there use it . TO many guys buy rifles then turn around and have to spend more money getting a trigger job. Thats what turn me on to a tikka.

I was not aware of pushing the trigger forward to engage the 12oz trigger (or in any event the much lighter setting.)  It sounds much safer than just a standard 12oz trigger.

The Tikkas can be self adjusted from 2 to 4 pounds, and I agree that it's a consideration on the plus side because you don't have to spend money to have a gunsmith do a trigger job.  In fact, I have a jewel trigger installed on my Remington BDL SS DM in 7mm-08 (cost about $230 for the trigger plus $50 for installation), and it's just absolutely AWESOME, BUT, to me, the Sako and Tikka triggers feel almost as good!!!

All of our rifles are CZs and they all needed the triggers adjusted. It's a simple procedure that's detailed in the manual.  Use blue loc-tite on the screws or they will loosen and you will get trigger creep eventually.  After it's adjusted properly, you won't have to do anything else to it.  My centerfire rifle is a CZ 550 American and it too shoots .5" at 100 yards.  The only problem with it is that it needs to be re-zeroed when you travel or when there's a significant change in humidity. They use the old Mauser technique of having a freefloated barrel except for where the barrel meets the forend.  The forend exerts pressure on the barrel. I believe this is the reason for the need for rezeroing.  Mine was off 10" when I went to Wyoming last year.
