Here are the results with the factory Rem 100 gr PSP in the 25-06 Ultra. Fired two three shot groups at 100m 1-1/4" for the first one and 1-1/16" for the second one. This is as good as the best hand loads I tried.
Alas a disappointing average velocity of 3188ft/sec. Well we know why that is. All my hand loads showed the same 100 ft lower velocities, and stoking in more coal is not the answer. Accuray will not improve with higher pressure in the chamber.
Also I used a new hunting scope a Bushnell 4-12 x40 AO Banner a low priced well made in Korea scope. Seems to work well, not quite as clear as the 3-9x42 Sightron on the Ruger#1.
Note: All our new ranges in Canada are 100 meters about 110yards.
It seems the rifle likes the Rem 100gr PSP bullets. I think these bullets are well worth trying and from what I seen work well on game. Besides they are reasonable in price. When I have some time I will try some of these bullets and H1000 loaded to the same OAL. But really I am tired of the Ultra 25-06. Simply too much hassle to make them shoot.
For your info my 25Hunter will do 3190 ft/sec with a 100gr Hornady Interlock in a 24" barrel and uses only 43.5gr of powder and that is a full case slightly compressed.
Non of the factory loads showed any sign of sticking, the all ejected perfect in the Ultra. Must have done something right.
The Ruger #1 25-06 averaged 3298 ft/sec with the same ammo and the same 26" barrel and a 11/16" group. This is quite good for factory ammo, also not comparable with a hand load of 56.5gr of Reloder 22 and a 100gr Barnes Triple Shock Bullet with a velocity of 3405 ft/sec and a 3shot group under 1/4".
