Tikka T-3 at the range
« on: August 12, 2004, 01:58:13 PM »
Had a chance to take my wife and her new T-3 to the range this past weekend. All I can say is WOW!!  After bore sighting it, she put 5 shots in under an inch at 100 yards. with three of them touching. Rifle is stainless, with a black plastic stock, and a 1.5 -5 Leupold Vari-X 3  7mm-08. The gun shot about the same with Remington Core-Locks and Federal Premiums, 140 gr. We are both pretty happy with it.

Yea, I know what you mean. I finally shot mine this past weekend with the same results. Mine is the same model is yours but in .30-06 with a 3-10x40 Weaver grand slam. I was putting everything under an inch at 100. Federal 165 grain and remington 165's both shot to the same p.o.a. I was amazed at the accuracy and quality of this rifle and the scope for that matter. :D

My experience has been the same with a 6.5-55!  I have this board to thank for the initial information that got me to check them out.  Plus the gun has good lines.....   Thanks  Buckfever

Everyone seems to think that I recommend Tikka all the time because I might work for or get paid from them. :)   Gee...I wish. :)

My recommendations, or criticisms, are based on my personal evaluations.  If anyone on this board knows me long enough, you'll hear people say that "Zachary will tell you to get a Tikka and Mount an Elite 4200 on it."  Well, that's true.

I have 3 more Tikkas on their way to me.  I'm just glad that all of you love your Tikkas. :D

My T3 .223 shows the same charachteristic.  Four different loads, 50 gr, 52 gr, 55 gr & 60 gr all shot to within 1.5 inch of the same poa and poi.  I never thought of this as being and indicator of a good rifle but am now beginning to think that way. :-)

Yup---Sako/Tikka are the real deal-----everything else is just a wannabe.

Truely the only rifles out of the box that you don't have to dic....eerr uumm mess with to get 'em to shoot straight.

NO---I don't work for them either---but have owned several examples of all the mass produced rifles out there---cept a Savage---those are too nasty to even get my money one time------NOTHING ELSE comes even close to Sako/Tikka. PERIOD.

I have a savage 7-08 that won't shoot for cr*p with any load.  Bought it based on Savage Reputation.  I'm sure there are plenty of Savage rifles out there that contribute to their rep for accuracy but obviously they do let a bad example get by them now and then :(   Maybe Sako/Tikka does too but if so I've not heard from the owners.  .   .  At least not yet :-)

My daughter is going to be 12 next year and can hunt (Montana) and that is the exact set up I am looking to get for her. I was in Sportsman Warehouse the other day to look at them but they had none. I have a couple of questoins, the only negative I have heard is the clip is plastic and some guys wonder how they will be over the years, I prefer a hingeplate but a clip would be good for her. Does the bolt lock down while the gun is on safety? That is my complaint of remingtons is the bolt opening while on safety. I forgot to ask the guy at Sportsnman Warehouse. How is the recoil, pretty mild I would think. She is probably 5 foot and 100 pounds. My daughter has only shot a 22 but this fall I will let her shoot my 410. I have seen them on the internet for $529  for SS and then shipping and FFL would propably add $40-50. sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Any reason to buy another gun. Thanks!

Well every company has one slip once in a while, and yours is the first I have heard of from Savage.  I know my Savage 30-06 will print 5 shots in 7/8".  4 of those 5 usually touch.

I'm plumb envious :-)   My 7-08 shot so badly out of the box that I replaced the scope.  Same thing all over again.  Still thinking it was the scope I replaced it again.  Third verse same as the first!

After glass bedding it into the cheapo plastic stock from Savage it improved enough to give me some hope.  I'm planning on replaceing the stock altogether with a Boyd's laminate and will also lap the bolt lugs.  If it will tighten up to 1.5" it will stay in the arsenal, otherwise onto the block she goes.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you give for the rifle? I have seen stainless Composite T3's in 7mm-08 on auction arms for $519.  I want one.  Good price?
Regards,

Tom

I have a 7-08 t-3 s/s.  First time at range w core-lokt factory ammo printed 1/4'' at 100 yds.  i bought my other son a 7mag in same setup with less than 1/2'' at 100yds.  they are in a class by themselves in this price range.  My 4 yr old Tikka Whitetal in 7mag does equally as well with Hornady HM 139gr.  Awesome shooters.

It is hard to beat the feel and the shooting accuracy of the Tikka, especially for the price.

I love my T3 243 and it will clover or one hole.  So far I've only shot test strings, but I've got two single whole groups.
