Would the Taurus model 44 be a good hunting handgun that can shoot hot loads? Just wondering because of the price. (around $400)

I shoot hot loads out of all my Taurus revolvers without problem, so I would say you should have no problem either. One thing to note though, in the Taurus owners manual it states clearly that the use of "reloaded, remanufactured, hand-loaded or other non-standard ammunition voids all warranties"
So if something were to happen using hot loads and they found out somehow, you would become your own warranty station. :D

A friend of mine has one of the early M44's with the 6.5" barrel. We've put loads as hot as 300gr @ 1,400 fps through it. He's only put a couple hundred of those through his gun so far, and I don't know how many more typical 240-250gr loads,  but it isn't showing any signs of problems yet.

Mine shoots great w/ 240 grain handloads.  (full load on W296 by the book)  I recently added a 2x scope and put 3 shots into a 5/8" group at 25 yards and a 1 5/8" group at 50 yards.  Pretty hard to blame the gun for that shooting.
