Need help with value of Savage
« on: August 08, 2004, 03:02:09 PM »
A friend of mind is thinking of selling a Savage model 340A in 30/30 cal.. It is about 50-60% bluing and the rifling is good, there are a few scratches on the stock but nothing deep. It has open sights with a wheel under the rear sight for elevation.
Thanks for any info you can give.

In my book (1999 so a little old) they place the value at $90-250.  With the blue half gone a fair to good would be the best the guy could hope for and that places the value at $125-175..  Check for abnormnal wear in the cocking cam and associated mechabism..  Also check the extractors...

Bis,

Just a note to add to what ‘gunnut69’ had to say.  Check the retaining catch on the magazine as the 340 was notorious for dropping loaded magazines when firing a shot after they had a bit of wear.  Lawdog

Thanks everyone for the info, I will pass it along.

Zachary- Thanks for the repair job, things like that happen when you have fat fingers and small keys :-) .
