I just acquired my grandfather's Stevens 311A double barrell, side by side, 12 gauge shotgun. I don't have the gun in my possession yet, but I pick it up in a couple of weeks. I was wondering if this would be alright for CAS? I know the gun was purchased by my grandfather before the 1960's. It is a breechloading, no visible outside hammers. Thank you.

Great shotgun!

That's the gun that was my first CAS shotgun. Sturdy, steady and solid.
Use it and enjoy it and think of Gramps.

Well, sounds like the only thing else I need to get is the second revolver, thinking of a 1858 Remington Cap and Ball to go along with my 1851 Colt Navy, and the pistol caliber rifle. Unfortunately, the rifle will be the most expensive.

Of course you're welcome to use cap and ball pistols in CAS. However, they are the most challenging to keep running smooth. For not much more, you can get cartridge guns and they are much easier to keep running during a match. Everybody has their favorite.

For starters, the 1892 clones are hard to beat for the money. The Marlin carbine is also a good deal. Big5 shops out west seem to have them regularly for $300.
