A new Mossberg bolt gun?? Wally world sighting..
« on: August 01, 2004, 06:38:19 AM »
Just got home from my local Wal-mart after seeing an inexpensive grade rifle in .270 made by (or for) Mossberg. It was comparable to a Remington 710 it was marked at only $245 and included weaver style mounts. The price alone got me curious but I can't find a dang thing on Mossberg.com or anywhere on the web about this rifle. Fill me in fellas!
I'm fond of Mossberg shotguns but never owned a Mossy rifle.

I handled it today and it's very light. It is called an ATR 100. It has molded in sling swivels not detachable studs. Cheap, simple and straight to the point type of rifle. I looked it up in their books and it is also listed in 30-06 caliber. I'm not into fancy rifles. just rifles that work well. Wish they had it in .308 !

I sent an email to Mossberg asking them to fill me in on the details, I'll post their reply when I get it. I'm really interested in one if it is made by Savage for Mossberg.

This is the reply from Mossberg....guess we'll have to wait until somebody actually buys one and tries it out huh?

Thank you for your e-mail.  There is a new model Mossberg ATR Bolt Action Rifle available in 2 calibers .270 and .30-06 matte finish black synthetic.  These models are currently available at your local Wal-Mart and will appear in our 2005 catalog.  Contact us again in the near future for further information or updates.

Lawd If its ANYTHING like the Rem 710 then run as far away as you can from it...I do love the Mossy shotguns and I also own a Mossy bolt action slug gun that is a "tack driver" at 100 yrds with lightfield slugs..By tack driver I mean 3/4 inch groups at 100 with a simmons shotgun scope...Thats pretty sporty for a slugger..I also have the deer slayer rifled barrel for my mossy 500 and it aint too bad ( 1.5 at 100 ) Not tack drivin but not to bad for a switcher.... I have seen and shot a few of the older mossy rifles and they arent the best performers in the world but they aint that shabby if well taken care of...Good luck

Synthetic stock or wood?  If wood I'd pick up a .270 in a heartbeat (I've already got a .30-06 so no need to get another).  Did we find out if they're built by Savage yet?
