Stevens pistol
« on: July 30, 2004, 02:18:14 AM »
A friend of mine showed me a pistol today.  He said his father ordered it out of a danish mail-order catalogue in 1926.  The gun is a single shot Stevens, .22, and he is curious to find out when it was made and what it's worth is to a collector.  He thinks it's older than 1926.  The gun doesn't have a trigger guard but front sight is in a tube and rear sight is adjustable.  I'm pretty sure it's old, but if you can help me out (which I strongly believe you can) I have more guns for you to analyze for me.  Iceland is piled with weapons noone knows anything about.
I sport a hefty 11-87 for my benefit as a proud waterfowler......

Sounds like a Stevens Pocket rifle.  They were made in several models from 1869 to 1916 and later.  Exact barrel length and markings could narrow that down.  Their values run $200-400 US

Could be a Diamond model single shot target pistol. If it has a spur trigger that's probably my best guess. Stevens did make another cheaper pocket pistol like the Diamond, but it was less popular. The Diamond is supposed to be a very strong action. I couldn't guess on a collectors value. The DIamond is listed in  a 1902 Sears catalog I have. I think the price was somewhere around $2.00.
