Took my new hunter to the range on Saturday.
Specials first as you guys recommended. What a pussycat with 44 specials.
Shot about 20 rounds with excellent accuracy at 25 yards. Could hit 5" plates every time, which is no great accomplishment, but I was initially impressed for the first time out with randomly selected ammo.
I cleaned when finished with the specials. This revolver gets very dirty fast with the specials.
I decided to shoot some magnums through it because I just could not resist the temptation. The recoil is ALOT different, but not nearly as bad as I expected. Some of the people have posted about the heavy recoil of a 44 Magnum in a revolver. I found it very manageable. Not in any way uncomfortable. Some have posted about sore hands and wrists or even bruised knuckles. I did not experience any of this even after 20 specials then 30 magnum rounds.
This revolver is everything I dreamed it to be. I did not try to shoot for group size. Just kind of general shooting to try to feel out the gun.
The last 5 shots were at a 10" metal gong at 100 yards. I hit it 2 out of 5 times with the factory open sights. With a little practice, I am quite sure I can hit it 5 out of 5. At 50 yards, the factory sights are about 5" high.
After this experience, I am considering keeping the factory sights and staying away from a scope. I just didn't think I could shoot this good with the open sights. I was pleasantly surprised.
Thanks to everyone for aiming me in the Hunter direction.
