Hey guys. I was wondering if there are any functional problems with the Win Short Mags. i'll be buying one soon, (hopefully) and would like any feed back yall have. Any feeding problems? Ejectiong issues? Would there be a problem with a short mag cartridge in the standard sized action in a tikka t3? Thhe one size fits all theory is efficient for the manufacturer, but would it cause problems in the field with a shorter, fatter cartridge?

I have been shooting a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 300WSM for about three years and have never had any feeding, or ejection/extraction problems at all. I also load for a friend that has the Tikka T3 in 300WSM and I highly recommend it. It's a great shooting rifle. I really liked the trigger on this gun. It's very light though. Plan on putting a good recoil pad on it if you're going to shoot it from the bench at all. We put a Limb Saver on his and it helped a bunch.

There is a site dedicated to owning and shooting any and all short mags. The address of the website is www.shortmags.org and it has forums that cover reloading, factory loads, customizing, etc, etc. It's not near as extensive as Graybeards, but it has a lot of good info specific to shortmags.

Was the limb saver pad a pre-fit model for the T3? I have a T3 SS in 300WSM and would like to get a better pad for it.

Yeah... about the recoil pad... I was at a sporting goods store the other day and found a Hi-Viz X-coil pad. I dont know how well itd fit a tikka t3 though. Thanks for the website and the info. Im very glad to hear that there arent any problems with the short mags. i think i might havefinally finalized my caliber selection... 270wsm. Should be sweet.

Another question: I know that the Tikka t3 has a single size action... will that cause any problems with the shorter cartridge? I dont know why it would, but im just asking. Any thoughts Zachary?

Also... Will the short mags wear out a stainless barrel quickly, or at least quicker than standard cartridges?

I haven't picked up the Tikka T3 SS in .300WSM yet from my FFL. I ordered 2 more Tikkas this week, so I'd might as well wait until all three come in so that I can kill 3 birds with one stone. But I'll let everyone know as soon as I get it.

The recoil pad that we put on his is a slip on, so it's not fitted.

If you go to Limb Savers website at http://www.limbsaver.com/limbsaver/firearms/precfit.aspx they have a list of fitted recoil pads. They also have grind to fit, but I've heard that these are pretty hard to work with because the rubber is so soft, you have to be very careful when you're grinding it off.

I think you'll really like the 270WSM. That'll probably be the next caliber I buy.

Do the Short Mags wear out the barrels quicker than standard cartridges, or are there any others negatives with them? Cause they sure seem perfect to me.

I dont see how it would wear a barrel any different than a standard magnum or any handloaded round. because the velocities are so close to one another i really dont see how...I know people that hunt with old WW1 and WW2 rifles that where actually used in the wars, and they have not wore out yet, but please dont take my opinion, I recommend contacting Beretta directlly with this www.berettausa.com I think they would know better than anyone, and then again the short mags are not old enough themselves to know if they will wear or not...
