Do any of you folks decorate your rifles?
Brass tacks, Inlays into the wood etc....
I saw a rifle that belonged to a fur trapper
in the 1840s and it was truely a thing of beauty.
I then went home and proceeded to decorate
one of mine that I built. It turned out pretty well.
That was several years ago and I have since
built a second rifle just like it for my brother.
Picture a short Hawken with a stock that is almost
full length and that is what it looks like.

I like to look at the old drawings and the polaroids taken during the fur trade era - just kidding - I know they didn't make drawings as they had the camera. Anyhow, I like to copy those designs that were used back then, and maybe add a little of my own to it.

:grin: I do the same thing also. Most of my rifles that I hunt with have two crow feathers attached to a loup that the ramrod inturn goes through near the thimbles. Gives it somewhat of an Amerind look and is handy for wind direction. Several also have tacks of copper and brass in a Orion star pattern in the stock(small tacks). It is interesting to see how some of the guys will decorate thier rifles and accounterments. Stay safe..............King

Saw an inlay in an old rifle that I liked. Someone had polished the features off a silver dollar and cut it into a crescent moon.

Personalizing and embelishing weapons goes back as far as Neanderthal man.
Call it Mana, or whatever, but if your personal weapon is not connected to you in some way, how can it do your bidding? :wink:
