Interested in CAS but have a question

I am interested in CAS but I was wondering about guns.  I know you need two revolvers, a pistol caliber rifle(which means can't use my 30-30), and a specific style of shotgun.  I am still a little confused about the revolvers.  I have one revolver so far, and that is a cap and ball Traditions .44 Caliber 1851 Colt Navy Revolver, which I absolutely love shooting.  Would I be able to use this as one of my revolvers, actually could I buy a second one just like it for the required two revolvers?  Thank you for any information.

A 51 Navy is perfectly appropriate for CAS shooting.  If you load the rifle and shotgun with blackpowder cartridges, you can shoot Frontier.  If a stage demands a reload (usually one more shot) you can load all six chambers, but cap only 5, and cap the 6th as a reload, or load and stage one chamber of a second (or third) gun, and cap it on the clock.  Lots of shooters shoot cap & ball.  (In England, that's all they are allowed to own and shoot).

The short answer is yes.. you can use Cap and Ball pistols in CAS.  

If you have experience with C&B and are not easily frustrated by mechanical issues, then you have found a cheap and fun way to shoot.  There are some inherent problems and the folks I know who shoot frontiersman spend a great deal of time getting the guns set up just right.

In the long run, it can be cheaper to shoot 38s, in both pistols and rifle.  Buy the shotgun last!  And go visit the local shoots, announce that you're new and interested and you will get to try out every gun under the sun!
