Ruger M77-II RSI in .308

While at the local gun shop the other day, I spied a used M77 Mark II RSI (full stock International version) in .308 on the rack.  The gun looked to be in new condition and probably not fired much, looked sweet with that full stock!

Has anyone had or fired one of these in .308?  I know these little rifles are handy and strictly for hunting use but was wondering about the potential accuracy, muzzle blast, and recoil of the .308 in such a short package (18.5" barrel) with the full length stock.  I might just have to go back and snag this one to find out for myself!

I had a pre mark II model and though it was not the most accurate rifle I ever owned it would shoot everything into less than 2 inches and it was a handy piece indeed. I did kill a nice black bear with it.

If you like that look fine. I owned one in 308 and was generally happy with it but it didn't shoot as well as say a M7 or something light along those lines. Full foreend rifles if not done correctly can be terrible shooters.

I have a M77RSI MkII in .308 with a Leupold 2.5X M8 scope.  (I like the small, durable scopes on these short rifles.)  I use 150 gr. Hornady Custom factory ammo and get 1.3" groups at 100 yds.  I installed a Timney trigger - as I do on all my Ruger 77's, and I really like this rifle.  I own 2 other Mannlicher stocked rifles, a Ruger #1 International in 30.06, and a custom 1909 Argentine Mauser in 30.06 by Walt Sherman.  All are excellent shooters, and a pleasure to carry in the woods.  I am not very sensitive to recoil and muzzle blast.  I have friends who are more so, and they have shot my .308 with no complaints - in fact, wanted to buy it from me. I don't know what they are asking for the one you are looking at, but if the price is fair, I think these are pretty classy rifles for the money. The wood is usually pretty decent too. The Timney trigger really makes it a smooth operator, I don't much care for Ruger factory triggers, but that has been my only issue.  If you buy it, hope you enjoy it.  Good Luck.

I have an older tang safety RSI 308 and it shoots 150gr Hornadys over H335 into 3/4" 5 shot groups and does not recoil at all, seems to lift more than come back to me. It is hard on the ears, especially out of a enclosed stand. Wouldnt trade mine for anything.

I owned one in .250-3000. It was capable of just over 1 MOA. It carried nicely, pointed well, and was great for snap shooting. Shot lots of woodchucks with it but never had it in my hands when I saw a deer. The person I sold it to has shot several deer with the rifle and would not part with it.
