Its a shame they don't allow handguns in the special regs areas but scoped in-line Ml's and slug guns are OK.  They could place restrictions on caliber or restrict to straight walled case no bottlenecks.  Maybe in a year or two?, they are allowing crossbows during regular archery season in special regs units so maybe they will allow handguns someday.  Their goal is to reduce the herd and get more people afield in those areas.  Handguns may be one more avenue.  Call the PGC in Reading or Harrisburg and express interest in using handguns in special regs areas, if enough people call they may bring it before the commissioners.

   Ive already done that, I think its more political than for any good reason. As stated, an inline ML or sabot SG shooting a .45 bullet in a plastic sabot at 1600 to 1900 fps is OK, fire the same without the sabot 500 or 600 fps slower from a revolver and its dangerous. Not much logic there. Maybe its the plastic around the bullet makes it safer? We also have two kinds of landowners in the Spec Regs, 1 Shoot all the deer, they are rats with antlers.  2 Deer are so cute Im going to feed them.
Hunting small plots is tricky, my archery group has been congratulated and cheered,  cursed at, even videotaped and one time even threatened.

I hail from Northampton co. near Bath.
 love to shoot anything that goes BOOM!
 My hunting revolver of choice is currently a Ruger Black Hawk 5 1/2" 45 Colt. With it I've killed a couple of bucks and several does as well as a black bear here in Pa.
 I do most my hunting in Potter Co. near Ulysses
 Anytime you boys from around here want to get together to shoot let me know!

I'm in the area (sort of).  I work through out PA primarily in the SE but I currently live in south Jersey.  I do most of my shooting in PA due to the lack of rifle and handgun ranges in NJ.

Oneshotonekill, I know Jersey can be tough. Where are you going in PA. Targetmaster in Chads Ford is a pretty good indoor range. Better ventilation and lighting than most of the others around this area.

  I rifle hunt McKean Co outside Smethport near Bradford. I like your hunting revolver choice, Im shooting a Bisley Blackhawk in .45colt also. Havent had the op to get a deer with it yet though. Maybe this year.

I'm from the Quakertown area and shoot my handguns a whole bunch.  :D I have taken many whitetail and 4 really nice Elk, one of which is a BC 315 6x6. :eek:  i have guided into about 25 others. :eek:  I do this every year. I hunt with a TC Contender in 375JDJ, M629 and a M625.  :shock: i am going to try my SW 500 this year but I'm carrying my 15" 338-06 Encore as my 200yd gun. I have taken deer with teh .45LC, Ruger SBH Hunter, DW 44, 6.5TCU, 309JDJ, 30-06 15" Encore, 358JDJ and a 10" 444 marlin. 1 Elk (my first a 5x5) has succumbed to a 150yd 35 Remington Super 14" and 200gr handloads. :oops:  Ya gotta luv handgun hunting!!!  :D Topgun

I live right here in Central Bucks Co.  Hunt archery and shotgun on a local farm in Solebury township...deer population - about as many deer as people.

Handgun hunting is in Western PA in Clarion County.  Every year I take about 5 deer, usually one with a handgun.

Had a 625-7, great shooter.  Real Accurate.  Not stout enough for hunting level loads.  Just recently picked up an FA83 MagnaPort Stalker with .454 and .45acp cylinders love it.  Deer season can't come fast enough.
