Author Topic: Taurus Tracker Quality? (Read 1502 times)

I'm thinking of getting a 45 Colt Tracker and was wondering how the quality is lately? I've heard that it has slipped some and was wondering if it is still true. I haven't found any local dealers that sell this model and I'd hate to order one and find out they're junk. I'd probably get the stainless version in 4 inch form. I'd prefer blued but I don't see it offered and titanium doesn't do it for me.

After doing some reading and checking around for examples in area gun shops, I'm going to get a Ruger Bisley instead.

I have the 4inch 41 mag ported tracker. I have put approx. 300 rounds through it most max loads and some factory. I have had ZERO problems, no copper or powder spit back in my face like some other TOP name gun and at 20 yds can get a 5 shot ragged hole group. I will say the gun either really likes a round or totally will not group with it. I have had great success with both 210gr XTP and 220gr Speer semijacket bullets using LilGun and H4227. I have only 1 load that works well with H110. The guns timing and lockup is excellent after the rounds I put through it. I like the porting for the reduced recoil but be aware porting gives a muzzle blast second to none WEAR GOOD ear protection, I actually use ear plugs and muffs when shooting this gun. I ordered this gun specifically for hiking and hunting and have not looked back. I own 3 taurus guns, the 41 tracker and 2 millinium pros, PROS is the secret as some of the earlier millenium models seemed to have problems that since then appear to have been ironed out. I think Taurus as other companies went through a reduced quality control period but since have really come to bat.

ditto,my tracker 41 mag ss 4 inch has shot well with everything I have fed it so far.I bought it for a carry gun when I was deer hunting but no the more I shoot it the more I like it.
I cast my own bullets and my 210 swc .412 will clover leaf at 25 meters using 2400.it is loud and has a bit of a blast,so what...
the marlin is also in 41 mag

I also have the Tracker in .41 magnum. I only shoot factory loads, 220 grain and have never had a problem. Fit and finish are excellent, lock-up is good and the gun is more accurate than I am. Love the grips and it is loud!

You can't go wrong with the Ruger. Have one 45 colt and I love it. For the big loads it is safer but it is also much heavier. Picked up a 45 Colt tracker 4" titanium for hiking and hunting sidearm. Have been very pleased. Lighter than the SW 329 PD 44 mag and only a little less performance and I think more comfortable to shoot with porting and "ribber" grips. After some research in this and other similar forums concluded 45 ACP pressures of 21,000 psi acceptable in this gun with its thin outside cylinder walls (.054 in). Have been able to get 255 gr bear tooth bullet and 265 CP at around 1100 fps and 300 gr bear tooth at 1050 fps with W296 and H110, hopefully in the presure range I mentioned. 255 at 1000 fps with blue dot is more comfortable to shoot adn still potent. If I'm ever in Alaska I'll bring the Ruger with loads up to 34,000 psi but for the mountains of Virginia when hiking or hunting I feel prety good about the Taurus performance and it is so light to carry. Gray Beard has the 6 in steel model in 45 Colt but may not have had time to wring it out yet. I'll publish my load data when find some time.
