How does the SBH Bisley shoot?

Has anybody here actually shot the Ruger Super Black Hawk bisley in .44 mag?  I don't need one, but what the hell does THAT have to do with anything?!  I currently own a Cold Anaconda but a true blue .44 mag afficianado wouldn't be caught dead without a SA gun in his safe, would he?

Have not shot a 44 but used to own a 41.  In my opinion the Bisley grip does not handle recoil well.  It hurt my hand to the point that I wore a glove to shoot it.  I have never done that with any other pistols of much bigger calibers.  Most love the Bisley grip though, to each his own.  I would try to shoot one before buying if that is possible.

The SBH Bisley is my favorite single action.  The gripframe on the standard Super Black Hawk used to beat the knuckle of my second finger black and blue.  I replaced the gripframe, hammer and trigger with Bisley parts.  That solved my problem.  It was worth the time and effort.  I now have a sa 7 1/2" sab Bisley that shoots great and doesn't beat me up. :-D   The Bisley doesn't fit everyones hand the same, but if the SBH and the BH tend to bash your hand you might like the Bisley model.

Dusty,
If you ever make the mistake of shooting any of the Bisleys you will be hooked for life, You will be hauling all your other revolvers off to a gun show. This will be like going through the change of life for you. There is a completely different feeling when you shoot a bisley. It feels like you are shooting reduced loads. You don't get the jumping up of the barrel as you do with the black hawks. TRY IT, YOU WILL LIKE IT. have a good day and stay safe Dusty..............Joe...................

I have both a regular and a bisley in 44mag. The factory grips on the regular sbh do not fit my hand so I went to after market grips, I've worn out 3 herrett shooting stars and I didn't like the feel of the pachmyr grips but with hogue grips its great. They fill my hand and make the gun really easy to control, they are the best that I've found since I bought the pistol in 1975. As for the bisley, here again the factory grips do not fill my hand so I have trouble getting a good grip on this pistol and recoil is harder to control for me. Both pistols shoot fine but for me the regular sbh with hogue grips is the better choice. Also if the bisley doesn't fit your hand all you can do is get someone to make a set of custom grips (unless someone knows of a source of oversize grips for a bisley grip frame). Or you can switch out the bisley grip frame for a sbh grip frame. Hope this helps. rugerman
