Sweets Use
« on: June 30, 2004, 01:57:17 PM »
I have over the years used Sweets for cleaning copper out of my rifle barrels. After using the Sweets I have always followed up with wet patches of a Shooters Choice / Kroil mixture and then after I dry the barrel I run a oiled patch through and a dry to take out the excess oil. My question is would I be better off using patches wet with alcohol after the Sweets?
Good Shooting,
George

You are trying to remove the Sweets correct?  So try this experiment.  Put some sweets on a piece of metal, iron or stainless like a gun barrel. Now try to wipe it off with the alcohol.  Next try the same with wiping it off with the sc / kroil or maybe hoppes.  Which works better?  What feels cleaner?  Next thought.  After cleaning and removing the sweets and oiling the barrel---Why dry the oil out?  Why not leave it in the barrel and run a dry patch through the barrel before you shoot it.  You can even store the rifle muzzle down in your safe.  I am not talking of an oil patch dripping with oil but maybe four or five drops worked into the bore.  Something to think about.
