Ruger MK77 VT twist rate
« on: June 16, 2004, 06:45:36 PM »
Hello
As I'm sure there are few of you out there that have the VT in 243. Any idea what the twis rate is in that rifle and what kind of loads or bullets does it like. Thanks

I don't know what the rate of twist is...I think that the manufacturer could best answer that particular question.

As far as what load your particular rifle likes, the only person who would know is you.  Why?  Well, every single gun is different.  They look identical, but they don't act identical.  What may group well in your rifle may or may not group well in an identical rifle.

That said, there are bullets that are "generally" more accurate than others.  I have found that my Tikka in .243 likes Federal 100 grain premium boat-tails - groups around 1/2 an inch.

Best thing to do is shoot different ammo and see which loads it likes best.

melduja,

Checked my Ruger 2004 catalog and found that Ruger dropped the .243 from the 2004 line up.  Went back to my 2002 catalog and found that Ruger lists the twist rate at 1 -9" RH.  As for a good load you are going to have to find one that suits your Ruger.  Like Zachary said all rifles are different.  What works in one rifle may not work in another of the same caliber.  Small groups and tight lines to you.  Lawdog

Thanks for the help guys. The 1in9 is a good bench to start from, I shall try some heavier bullets and hope for the best. I heard that those rifles are very accurate but I onlt used light bullets in the past that maynot have been very suitable for the fast twist.

Thanks again
