Choices??

Hey guys,if you had the choice between buying a Winchester Mod 1300,Mossberg 500,or Remington 870 which would you get?Don't use a shotgun much just to make a few doves fly faster and higher :lol:  and a few turks run faster............Rick

The model 1300 has been around since the 70's and is one of the most underappreciated great shotguns of all time.  It's one of the fastest pumping, workhorse shotguns on the market for about $300 bucks.

One of my favorites.  All I use anymore on deer & turkey.  Don't think you'll go wrong with one.

You wont go wrong any way you go.  All three are highly dependable, have loads of aftermarket accessories available, and will take deer beautifully.  I wound up with an 870 I got at Wal Mart for under $300 to use as my main hunting weapon when I first began hunting a couple of years ago.  Ive since added a rifle and muzel loader to the hunting arsenal, but with an additional  shotgun only permit my 870 (sporting a new Hastings rifle bbl I got a sweet deal on,) will still be going afield.

My $.02.............

Mossberg® especially if you are a lefty. They are not as cosmetic but are well made, function flawlessly, have a 10 year warranty vs 1 year for Remington®, or Winchester®. FWIW Mossberg® is the shotgun the military now uses.

In the final analysis however; the only opinion that matters is your own.

Those are all very reliable guns.  In my opinion my choice would be 870, 1300, 500.  Now if the 870 is an Express and not a wingmaster my choice would be 1300, 870, 500.

Ihuntbucks...Black Shadow is a great shotgun and it looks like you've found it at a very good price, but take a look at the 1300 NWTF Buck and Tom.  Walmart can get about anything Winchester makes including the Buck and Tom version and like the others have said, nothing wrong with the 870 or 500 I'm just a huge 1300 fan.

I'll agree with the majority and say that they are all good choices. I've been using different brands of pumps for a long time.  I have three 870's now,(2 wingmasters 12ga & 28ga and 1 special purpose 12ga) so I guess I would choose the 870. I would also add that Ithaca would also be a good one.  

Check them all out, because each one is different (safetys,slide release ,stocks,& weight) and get the one that fits you best. :wink:

Take your pick of any one or heck, get all three to be on the safe side which is what I am doing. I already have a 1300 and a 500 and really like both while noting that each has its own merits. I also like the Remington and plan on getting one to round out the collection. Main thing is to try each one out and see which one feels right for you. All serve the same basic functions rather well but it is still the person behnd the buttplate who has to enable the firearm to do its job properly.

Part of the fun of shooting is deciding what firearm to get and mercifully there are many choices to be had and few bad ones to be made.

I picked the Mossy 500 28" barrel w/Adv.Max-4 Camo.Will last longer than me,Iam sure :lol: .I tried several and the 500 felt the best.Another reason I picked the 500 was that I got 3 chokes,not just a mod like the other 1300 and 870.But I think the most deceiding factor was I feel the Mossberg service dept. will be better.My reasoning for this is the fact I emailed Mossberg 3 different times and got a reply the very next day.I like that!!Now it could just be a smoke screen or may be their not busy;don't know but it sold me.BTW,the other 2 have not reply to the 1 I send each one of them.Guess they are too busy to be bother.But that's ok,they didn't need my money anyway :lol: .......................Rick

That's GREAT! :-D With the Mossberg® you will get great service & performance. Quick replys to your e-mails is a good example. This occurred in large part because O. F. Mossberg & Sons® is still a family owned business;  like Remington® & Winchester® were a century ago. Ruger® is the only other I know of; I hope some day they make a pump shotgun.
