Does anybody have a name for your gun or guns? I have for sometime called my 300Win. Mag., Maggie May. It seems to flow off my tongue. My hunting buddies refer to it as Maggie, as "going to take maggie to the clear cut stand?" I don't think this name is that unique but I bet some of you guys have some interesting names and stories!

I call my Marlin 450 guidegun, my little baby Maria, my friend named it, bye saying come meet my little baby Maria as he held it, he got that from Scar face the movie. It stuck with it. Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

Yea, I named my Browning 270 WSM "Bambi's Nightmare". I even had in engraved on the bolt.

My Browning 7mm mag with the BOSS is named "Loud Mouth". Shoot it one time and you will know why it's called that!!!

My Winchester 1886 45/70 Govt. is Thumper. My S&W Model 686 revolver is Yodah. Many years ago, it taught me to shoot a D/A revolver in the D/A mode, like God intended.

Must be a 45-70 thing, my Marlin 1895 is called Thumper also. My BFR in 500MAG is called shortie. My Shiloh Sharps is the deer slyer. All my other guns are nameless :cry:

I came up with lots of names for my dad's Bryco/Jennings 9mm, but I can't really write them on a public forum. Mostly, my guns get called some shortened version of the actual make/model name, like Smith, Red, Winny, etc. The first muzzle loader that I ever built is often called the Ugly Stick, with good reason. It may shoot well, but it looks like someone held the tools with their feet during the inletting process.

"Thumper" must be the common gun name, as that is what I call my customized model 700 in 7mm Rem Mag. It has definately thumped its share. My newer deer gun is a model 700 in 7mm-08 ackley improved. Its name is "sweet pea" as it wears a mostly olive green McMillan stock and handles "sweet".

My late friend and hunting club president shot a model 742 30-06, and was the most unbelievable shot on running game you have ever seen. From the time I was old enough to hunt until he died seven years ago, I never heard him refer to that gun as anything other than "Maude". And when "Maude" spoke, without exception, you could count on there being meat on the pole.

My .54 cal 1770 styled long rifle goes by Daisy...It has a Lancaster daisy patchbox....My .40 cal 1820 styled long rifle goes by Sweetheart...It has a teardrop heart inlaid into the top of the wrist...flintlock

Don't laugh to hard but my wife nicknamed my Contender years ago with "One dinosaur at a Time Gun". It isn't short or sweet but the family knows the one she's talking about.

My farther gave the 7mm STW Sendero the moniker "Big Boomer" I wonder why.

A couple of years ago I started hunting with some new guys at camp.
They are kind of well to do so to speak. They make lots of money and what they shoot shows it. So here I am with my trusty Savage 30-06
just a plain wood stock blue barreled gun. So as these guys break out
their expensive guns with Zeiss scopes. I said to myself my trusty
gun sure is plain Jane. After that she's just called Jane. By the way
just because they have expensive guns does not mean they shoot any better than Jane. We hold are own just fine.

My Remington 7mm Mag is called the "The HAMMER".

One of the guy's in our hunting camp was in my blind with me when this 8 point came walking out just at dusk. There were a few does in the field and a small 3 or 4 point. I got his attention (he was half asleep) and said "watch this" he turned just in time to see me drop him right where he stood.

His comment was,.... " MAN,... did you ever hammer him good,.. pounded him like a 10 penny!"

I have a black Rem 40x ,with a black Hart bbl, black scope, and she sits in a black HS tactical stock. That's my "BLACK MAMBA",. It has quite a bite. :-D

I also have a 22-243AI that is known as "Ol' Sparky".

None of my other firearms have ever had names. :wink:

None of mine are named. Guess I'm just not creative that way

. My uncle though, does have one old Remington 1100 which he calls "Willard". I don't know why. He doesn't use it that often, and none of his other guns (he's got close to 50) have nicknames. I'm sure there's a story behind it I'll have to ask one day

My Ruger .280 is called The Dog,my brother in law named it a few years ago.It has stuck,and now the whole family knows The Dog,and I think they have all killed deer with it.

I have a Remington M742 .30-06 with an old Weaver K4 scope on it that I inherited that for more years than I can remember has been called Ole Meat In The Pot. Not one family member remembers how many animals have been taken with that rifle. It belonged to a family friend(called him Uncle Charlie) and it was always in camp for those to use if they so wished. Accurate, not really. Got an average of 3 inches @ 100 yards but it always seemed if you shot an animal it died. Do I use Ole Meat In The Pot? I have and still do just to keep its record alive. Maybe its just a lucky rifle. Lawdog

I've wanted a Remington LSS Mountain rifle ever since I first saw one. My favorite hunting caliber is .270, but I just couldn't seem to find one in that caliber. I had searched for probably 2 years, the only ones I found were setting in the stocks very crooked and didn't look like good candidates, so I passed. Until one day, when I found one that looked perfect, and I bought it. I took it home and measured the chamber and it was factory minimum, even full length sized cases were tight in it. I had HIGH hopes, but was surprised when it wouldn't hit the broad side of the barn. Much work and gunsmithing later it would shoot 3" groups at 100 yards on a good day.
Let me tell you I had some nick names for that gun and the company that made it. None of which I can print here.
I know everyone makes a lemon now and then, but it was such a big let down, I made up some new nick names for that one.

I have a two rifles I take with me hunting. One is a marlin 45-70 and the other is a encore in 7 rem mag. I named them thunder and lightning.

one guy I hunt with has a Remington 700 factory camo 7 mag that he calls "Betty Bang". I haven't really named any of mine, I call them by their calibers; as in "I'm taking the .348 this morning."

I call my BSA 7x57 "Hallie" short for halitosis, (the medical term for chronic bad breath), because my father mentioned one time that whenever she speaks whatever is in front of her is either dead or totally incapacitated.
