Cylinder release thumb piece on M29 smith
« on: June 06, 2004, 04:07:42 AM »
I had a trigger job done on my M29 and the gunsmith lost the screw and the thumbpiece that releases the cylinder.  Well he made the trigger job free but where is the best place to get these pieces short of going to Smith @ Wesson?

rickt3000 :  Brownells has them in their catalog in both blue and stainless, give them a call 1-641-623-4000, hope that will help. :D    JIM

rick:  you may want to see if S&W has one of the 're-contoured' cylinder release.  I have one of those on one of my 38s and they are nice to shoot with as they don't get in the way of your thumb.  I once ordered some aftermarket cylinder releases that were contoured the way the new factory parts are but it was way to large and cumbersome.  I went to S&W.  But, this is just my 2 cents worth.  Mikey.

I'm amazed that any self-respecting gunsmith would let a gun get out of his/her shop with pieces missing due to the smith's lack of organization.  If I was working on a gun for someone and somehow managed to lose part of it, I would have Brownells send me the part by next day shipping.  It would never cross my mind to just hand it over the counter until it had been made whole, and it certainly wouldn't be good advertising for any gunsmith to have it get out that he/she loses critical firearm components while doing basic smithing chores.

Ordering from S&W is as simple as picking up the phone. Tell them what you need and give them a credit card # and they'll mail you the parts. Cost is no more than most other places.

Interestingly I have had great results from work I have had done on rifles but dismal happenings when pistolwork was done..  I think I will order from Smith and Wesson and ask for the better contoured pieces.
